Trusting the process in art & life
When life gets a bit too much, I'm so grateful for the gift of art in the midst of it all. Because the creative process is a wonderful teacher: the more you make art, the more you learn to let go of perfectionism and find creative solutions. Art makes you practice these mindset skills over and over again. That's why I always consider my art-making time as creative self-care.
Letting go of your art
After my online art show last weekend, several of you have asked me how I could possibly let gor of some cherished paintings. Here is my answer, and it all comes down to my artist āwhyā.
The art of noticing
It's pretty much impossible not to feel inspired when you spend a bit of time in Nature. Even a few minutes are enough: looking at (and smelling) a flower, observing a busy bumblebee with curiosity... it's all about slowing down, noticing and rediscovering a sense of childlike wonder.
Sensitive soul
If we sensitive souls want to show up as our best selves, make a difference and make art that brings light into the world, then we absolutely need to protect ourselves from getting overwhelmed. Here are some thoughts that might help.
How it all started
I wasn't always an artist. At least I didn't know I was until my thirties. But I had an artist soul locked up inside of me, and at some point she couldn't wait anymore. Thatās how my journey startedā¦
A Trail of magic
What if little signs of magic were everywhere, waiting to be discovered? What if we could make it a practice to notice and cultivate wonder in our life? Iām just back from an enchanting retreat, come on and follow the trail of magic with me!
Beauty spotting
Taking an "inspiration walk" is part of my creative practice: I love to go outside with the deliberate intention of spotting beauty. Sometimes I will capture it with my camera, other times I will simply stay a moment, looking, taking it all inā¦
Happy middle year
In just a few days Iāll be turning 45 and I love the idea of joyfully embracing my āmiddle yearsā. New projects are growing in my heart, new directions for my art, and a desire to rediscover some of my first lovesā¦
Your art matters
There is power in creativity, because the more love, joy, beauty and peace we create, on the canvas and in our lives, the more positive energy we bring into the world. So today I want to remind you of this one thing: you are an artist, and your art matters.
Creative self-care
Being fully in the present moment, and taking nurturing time for yourself, this is really one of the best and most important parts of art journaling. It truly is creative self-care. But itās not always easyā¦
Making a home
What if creativity could spill out into the rest of our lives, right into the heart of our home? This week Iāve been taking a break from the studio, and spent some time taking care of our old, yet sill new-to-us French farmhouse!
Life is a gift
Life is a gift. Made up of many, many gifts. Some are tiny, some are huge, and they all add up to something extraordinary... What are you grateful for today?
A Touch of pink
Roses are just starting to bloom in the garden. Did you know that pink is proven to be a deeply soothing color, associated with love and kindness? I thought I'd share some with you today!
Little pockets of inspiration
Today I thought I'd share a simple and beautiful little practice that supports my creativity and helps me feel inspired day after day. You can even do it with kids, enjoy!
In the chrysalis
There are things growing within our souls right now. Even if it feels uncomfortable, I can feel that I am realigning with my truth. Just like a butterfly growing within its chrysalis, what if we trusted the cycles of life, with full faith that something magical and beautiful will emerge in the end?
The Joy of learning
I just LOVE to learn. And especially learn new creative skills, whether on a canvasā¦ or a computer! There are exciting new projects in the works right now, and here is a little peek at whatās going on behind the scenes!
The Art of gratitude
The LAST PAGE of my Art Journal is all about Gratitude and Iām sharing it all on VIDEO! Including a lovely little ritual to close the past year and welcome the new one. Join me in the studio!
Creative mothers
If you are, or have, a creative mother, this post is for you. I happen to belong to both categories so I speak from experience when I say that the combination of Motherhood and Creativity is truly a one-of-a-kind journey! Happy Motherās Day!
A celebration of love
Valentineās Day used to mean nothing special to me, but what if it became an opportunity to celebrate Love, all love and especially self-love? What if we were brave enough to embrace every part of who we are and show up with our whole, beautiful heart?
Dear creative block
Iām feeling stuck, Yippee!ā¦ Thatās right, since the holidays I have been feeling totally and utterly STUCK. The Artist Block in all its glory! If youāre a creative in any field at all, Iām sure this is something you can relate to, because itās 100% part of the creative process. So what if we explored this together a little and see if I can lure myself back into the studio? Letās find out!
