Art journal travel kit
hello sweet creative!
Lately I’ve had such a longing for art journaling. Between filming a new class and making art for a live show, these past three months have been all about painting, well... paintings! And I've missed my journals so, so much.
Year after year, art journaling has become a hugely important practice in my life. It’s really creative self-care, and it's time to get back to it! That’s why I’ve just prepared a little art journal travel kit to take with me on vacation, and I thought I’d share it with you. Enjoy the video below!
favorite art journaling supplies
In this video, I’m showing you the supplies I’m taking with me for a summer week away. They fit with what inspires me at the moment: lots of neutrals, some favorite colors and materials… Make sure to create your own kit from what inspires YOU! And for a more comprehensive list of my favorite supplies for art journaling, check out this page:
what’s in my kit this year:
Art Journal: my “junkified journal” is an A5 journal that I’ve customized with lots of collage and starting points. I’m completely in love with it! I’m thinking of doing a mini-class about this when I get back. Would you like that?
Painting tools: round brush, filbert brush, silicon tool, needle tool
Matte medium (the fluid kind): I usually prefer the gel, but I like that this small bottle fits perfectly into my kit. I’ll use it mainly for collage
Crayons: Neocolor 2 water-soluble crayons. Mix them with matte medium and you get instant paint! I’m also taking some Neocolor 1, which are not water-soluble.
Paint: white heavy body acrylic + 1 favorite color
Various pens and pencils for journaling, sketching, mark-making…
Collage papers: lots of little scraps with different textures, images and cut-out words
Other: Pencil sharpener, washi tape, and during our vacation I’ll treat myself to a magazine or two, which will give me plenty of new material to play with!
art journal with me!
To me, art journaling is not just about painting pretty pages. It is deep and meaningful, just as much as it is fun and playful, and both are equally important! My journal is an outlet, a trusted friend, a magical portal, a playground… Art journaling has become such an important part of my life as an artist, and simply as a person. That’s why I love to share about it, and I’m thrilled to reopen my main journaling class, The Artist & the Journal very soon! Registration opens at the end of August. I would LOVE to be your guide in this adventure!
Alright, I’m off to pack the rest of my things. I guess I can’t bring just my art journaling stuff, right? I so look forward to taking a good break, visiting new, inspiring places and spending some quality time with my little family… and my journal!
