Color is my word of the year!

Hello lovely artist,

I just finished my "word of the year page" in my art journal! As a finishing touch, I added plenty of doodly flowers, and I'm so in love with how it all turned out:

When I work on a journal page, I always like to take a step back and reflect on the inner wisdom that my heart needs to receive from it. Funnily enough, it's often when I edit the pictures on my computer that I can take this time and let it come to me. Because this page is about my "woty", I know it will also offer new (and probably unexpected) guidance month after month.

For now, what I'm taking away is that, during most of the process, it was only half a butterfly, and it felt incomplete. But now it feels like it's half-way through a journey of growth.

A wing has fully unfurled, strong and bold, beautiful and colorful, while the other is still just a dream, made of many possibilities, represented by the flowers. They're fragile and delicate, and haven't found their colors yet. Some are starting to bloom, while others are still tiny little buds. With time and loving care, who knows what they might become?

Here’s a peek at the stages it went through:

The magic of personal symbols

Butterflies have always been my favorite symbol, and that's why they show up so often in my art. I have a feeling there will be many more this year! And I love the magic of surrounding yourself with symbols that support who you are, express your connection to the things and people you love, and what you believe in. When I look around my studio and home, there are positive reminders everywhere!

A new and fun positive anchor for me this year is a charm bracelet on my wrist. I've wanted one for a while! I'm only just getting started but I have a feeling it's going to become a bit of an addiction, especially when looking for second-hand charms online! I need to find a butterfly one.

Do you also surround yourself with personal symbols that uplift and inspire you? See if you can spot one right now and listen to any message it has for you. Then let me know in a comment at the bottom of this post!

If you haven’t already, I hope this inspires you to choose a “word of the year” to guide, support and delight you in the months to come. And if you’d like to create an art journal page about it, I have the perfect class for you here!
