The Xmas Robin
The Xmas Robin
Blog circle
t's blog circle time again! This month's theme is "December reflections" and will take you on a journey through traditions, resolutions, endings and beginnings, and probably many other holiday inspired reflections...
For my part, I would like to share one of the things that always make me smile around Xmas : the robin! To me, the first sight of this beautiful little bird in my garden really awakens the holiday spirit. I often spot it for the first time at the end of November, when many other birds are gone and the trees are almost bare: this little touch of red hopping around the garden instantly makes me feel happy and "Christmassy"!

I lived in Ireland for some time and it is there that I learnt to make a wish if I saw a robin at Xmas, which I often do! The memory of these years in Ireland will always be very dear to me, and the robin always brings back this Irish "feel" too...
Here is a little poem that inspired one of my very first paintings, one of my first attempts at mixed media, and I vividly remember the sense of wonder, discovery and fun that I experienced while painting it:
"A little robin sweetly singing
Came to my window on a Christmas day
And from his little throat came ringing
A most melodious lay."
So, if you see a robin on Christmas day, don't forget to make a wish!
