When you hear "abstract art", what's the first thing that pops up in your mind? For many people...
Abstract art can feel a bit confusing (or a lot!). It can seem complicated, intellectual and hard to master. But it doesn’t have to be!
Imagine if you could learn how to layer color, composition, mark-making, and texture like magic…
Abstract art can seem random and meaningless, as though, it’s nothing more than blobs of paint!
But what if it allowed you to paint those deeper emotions that no images or words can fully express to create truly personal and unique art?
It can be hard to know where to start, what step to take next, or when a painting is truly ‘done’.
But abstract art allows you to throw out the rule book and be experimental, so you can find new confidence and trust your intuition!
The truth is, abstract art is a wonderfully freeing, forgiving and fun way to explore and grow as an artist (and learn about yourself!) by discovering your inner voice and learning to express it in beautiful, magical ways.

Self-discovery is where it all begins! In the first part of the class, you’ll be guided to explore your artistic personality and make your space so inspiring.
A beautiful, guided meditation will help you connect with your inner artist and will lay the groundwork to uncover your art language in Part 2.
I’ll guide you to:
Bring your inner artist to light through a meditation exercise with visual cues.
Set up your space in a way that nurtures your creative soul.
Take a look within to uncover the stories you long to tell through your art.
Find personal sources of inspiration with journaling, an inspiration board to hang in your space, and Pinterest boards too!
Explore the possibilities of your art supplies to warm up your creative muscles.
Dedicate a journal to your artsy experiments.
The second part of the class is designed to help you uncover your own artistic style and voice, so everything you paint will be a reflection of you!
Through four very rich workshops, you’ll experiment with Color, Mark-making, Texture and Composition. Each workshop includes plenty of playful exercises to explore each topic, followed by a series of mini studies to practice your discoveries and create a whole body of artworks!
I’ll guide you to:
play with color, mark-making, texture and composition in new & exciting ways.
explore and experiment with plenty of techniques in your journal.
create a series of mini paintings for each theme! Working in a series is one of the best ways to learn and improve your skills. You’ll see!
Let's take a deeper look into each of the four themes and how they each play their part in revealing your true artist’s heart.
Part 2
Color is just pure, beautiful energy and it resonates with us so deeply. It’s all about emotion, mood and atmosphere. You’ll quickly realize that there are colors, and color combinations that you’ll love, and others you just won’t be able to stand!
This “gut feeling” is your best bet when it comes to uncovering your personal color palette, the one that instantly feels like home to your soul. So this is what we’re going to start with!
Discover your “soul palette” with:
PLAYFUL EXPERIMENTS
Using your inspiration board from Part 1 as a starting point, it’s time to explore your personal colors! I’ll also share my best tips about color mixing and plenty of ideas to find inspiration and color combinations that you love.
MINI SERIES
A fun way to gently expand your comfort zone is to “borrow” a color palette! This is a great opportunity to be a little more daring, make friends with colors you don’t often use and see how you can invite them into your art.
Part 2
Mark-making is such an important element of art, and abstract art in particular! Your marks convey so much of your energy and your personality. They’re as unique as your fingerprints! That’s why mark-making is a key element when it comes to expressing your artistic voice and your personal style.
Get ready to get messy because this lesson is chock-full of fun activities for you to explore and uncover YOUR marks.
Unleash your unique style with:
PLAYFUL EXPERIMENTS
Working both in your journal and on large sheets of paper to have plenty of room, you’re going to end up with a whole variety of materials to use in your paintings! Explore different mark-making techniques with tools found in nature or around the house, and broaden your horizon by using your own handwriting, collage, printed text, symbols and personal imagery!
MINI SERIES
Let’s take the next step! I’ll show you how to combine all the materials you’ve gathered into a series of evocative mini abstracts. You’ll learn to create layers upon layers that bring together the spontaneous marks from the previous experiments, symbolic shapes, text, color and even a piece of photography!
Part 2
Touch is all about connection. When you add texture to your painting, you bring the viewer in, evoking a powerful desire to reach out and touch the dimensional surface.
Plus, playing with textured materials and getting messy is just so much fun! Get ready to experiment with plenty of dimensional effects like stencils, collage, fiber and more!
Have fun getting messy with:
PLAYFUL EXPERIMENTS
Put on your apron and experiment with plenty of yummy techniques to build up highly textured backgrounds. Then let color run over the surface and watch how it magically reveals all the beautiful layers…
MINI SERIES
Delight in the making of a delicious little series with a “touchable”, organic feel. Working with a neutral color palette will allow your textures to reveal all their subtle beauty.
Part 2
If you think of color, marks and texture as the "words" of your art language, then you can think of composition as the story-telling part of the process…
And it doesn’t have to be complicated! What if I told you that the “rules” of art are only tips and tools to help you express yourself?
Take your art to the next level with:
PLAYFUL EXPERIMENTS
Let’s demystify the “rules” of art so they can become truly helpful (instead of scary!) and learn my best tips to use them whenever you get stuck. As you explore the various types of composition that you could use in your paintings, discover which ones you’re naturally drawn to so they can become a part of your style!
MINI SERIES
I’ll guide you to create a large, layered background, then find “accidental” abstracts within it and cut them out into smaller artworks. As you build dreamy layers on top, each one will become a unique painting! You’ll also see what happens when I get stuck (we all do!), and how to move forward by using the “rules” as helpful guides.
Now, it’s time to take everything you’ve discovered and create poetic paintings that tell your stories, carry your intentions and radiate with soul.
In this final part of the class, you’ll find 4 unique painting projects:
Three in-depth painting lessons
Plus a shorter bonus lesson
Each one is a journey in itself, where you will use different and beautiful mixed media techniques! I’ll guide you to uncover your personal themes and symbols, tap into your intuition and unveil the stories your soul longs to tell. All the way to finding titles for your art!
When I share the making of a painting from start to finish, it's more than a lesson, because I want you to feel like you're right next to me in the studio, experiencing my authentic process in the moment, artist to artist.
Follow along as I show you where I find inspiration, the moments when I get stuck, the happy accidents and every little detail of what happens on the canvas, and in my heart.
Part 3 - project 1
Start by choosing a personal intention and let it guide you as you create an imaginary, abstract landscape with layer upon layer of collage, paint, ink and even words.
Then bring it all together with a waxy, translucent veil of acrylic: this “faux encaustic” technique gives such a magical, ethereal finish.
Part 3 - project 2
Put on your artist glasses and start by looking for interesting aged surfaces in your surroundings as inspiration!.
Then, I’ll show you how to create magical layers to create the shabby, weathered look of an ancient wall: get ready to play with vintage prints, peeled paper, crackle paste and gesso among other delicious and fun techniques!
Bonus: This lesson includes a printable set of vintage papers that I’ve scanned for you from my personal collection!
Part 3 - project 3
What if you started by exploring your stories and played with title ideas even before you begin your painting?
I’ll show you different ways to invite themes and ideas to unfold, then you’ll create a set of dimensional artworks that incorporate layers of meaning with a personal photograph, found objects and cut-out words.
As a finishing touch, you’ll be able to float-mount your paintings with simple and beautifully weathered wooden frames to give them even more dimension.
Part 3 - bonus lesson!
This shorter bonus project is all about celebrating a story or a memory that’s dear to your heart, and creating a dreamy feel while relying on the structure of a grid for your composition.
As you watch me create a painting that honors my artist soul and my beginner self, I invite you to do the same and fully embrace the artist in YOU!

words & art
From the students
your guide for this creative journey
I wasn't always an artist. It wasn’t until my early thirties that I discovered the magic of mixed media painting.
I quickly realized there’s so much joy to be found in expressing ourselves freely in an abstract way, and it’s such a forgiving process too: you don't need to know how to draw, you don't need to master a particular technique… all you need is to embrace playfulness!
Abstract mixed media is incredibly liberating. There are no rules! From simply including a more abstract quality to a background, to semi-abstract art like abstract landscapes, all the way to completely abstract, expressive paintings. It's all allowed!
