The Artist &
The Journal

Art Journaling CLASS

Page after page, discover a creative practice that will nourish your soul and free your inner artist!

My most popular class to begin art journaling, create art just for you, and set your inner artist free!

What if...

  • you had a creative practice that allowed you to create with more freedom and joy, without pressure or judgment?

  • you had a way to make more art, more often, and most importantly, art that is more YOU?

  • you had a positive, soul-nurturing outlet to express your emotions and tell the stories you hold within in a safe and gentle way?

  • you gave yourself permission to grow your artist wings with freedom and abandon?

In “The Artist & the Journal,” you’ll explore your emotions, memories and imagination in the secret, sacred and magical pages of your art journal, while building a wonderful artistic and wellbeing practice that’s just for you!

When you think about starting an art journal, do you feel overwhelmed or afraid you don’t have it in you?

Before you’ve even started, you might already be anticipating failure and disappointment. You might think, ‘If I can't finish it, what's the point in starting at all?’

The truth is, your “inner artist” is far wiser than your inner critic. All you need is the courage to take the first step, start your first page, and you’ll be hooked!

One of the things that usually feels most intimidating is the fear of the blank page. Where to start? And how?

That’s where guided lessons can help immensely, and I’m going to show you how to warm up, loosen up, and get inspiration flowing. Each page will be an exciting adventure!

You might think, ‘What if I mess up a page right in the middle of my journal?’ ‘What if it turns out super ugly?’ ‘What if I ruin it?’

Don’t worry, I get stuck too! And I’ll show you exactly how to turn “mistakes” into happy accidents, all while reminding you that it’s perfectly normal if what you create isn’t a masterpiece every time.

The key is to take it one page at a time, trust yourself, and trust the process! We all have an inner critic, but we also have an inner artist and this class is about listening to her voice and giving yourself permission to pour your heart and dreams into your journal.

Hi, I’m Laly Mille

Let me tell you why I love art journaling so much:

Over the years, art journaling has become so important in my creative practice, and quite simply in my life.

From the very first page, it’s been an incredible way to let go of perfectionism in my art and tune in to my soul, my most authentic self.

But to tell you the truth, for many years I had a lot of resistance to art journaling. I would see others do it and I was fascinated, my heart longed for it more and more, but at the same time I was super scared. You see, I’m not very good at following rules and habits so I thought, ‘If I can't finish the whole book, what's the point in starting at all?’. I hadn't even started and I was already anticipating failure. My inner critic was wreaking havoc, but thankfully, my inner artist stepped up and I finally decided to let her guide me instead!

And before I knew it, I had a whole journal full of beautiful, meaningful pages that truly felt like ME, my very own magical storybook. I’ve been completely hooked ever since, and art journaling has become a precious artistic and wellbeing practice in my life. That's why I'm passionate about sharing this beautiful practice with you!

what Students have said:

“I have found a whole new level of how to BE and how to make MY art. I always enjoy the place that creating art takes me, but this is taking me somewhere much deeper into my soul. I love the way you teach, you have shared so many tips, your techniques, your supplies... I have also discovered that I enjoy using my fingers more than a brush! I’m looking forward to doing more of your courses.”

— FIONA G.

“Laly I cannot thank you enough. You have inspired me to get back into my art journals. I finally got out some watercolor paper and put together a journal using your video, got my space cleared out and cleaned up, and sat down to journal. You have inspired me to keep on going! Thank you, thank you!”

— ANGELA M.

“I began my journey by taking classes with other artists; however, they almost entirely led to me painting like the teacher rather than in my own style. It wasn’t until I discovered Laly and enrolled in “The Artist and the Journal” that my own style began to emerge. Not only have my mixed media skills improved, but my creativity has flourished! I can’t recommend this class enough!”

— KARIN K.

Part 2

The Deep Dive

It’s time to start creating your pages!

The creative process dances between working:

  • intuitively (letting your inner artist lead the way!) and more

  • intentionally (having a bit of a plan or idea of what you want to create).

We’ll explore both in this part of the class!

Art journaling is an intimate & personal practice.

It’s as much about well-being as art-making. So you’ll be right by my side as I share every little detail of my creative process, including the vulnerable parts like sharing personal stories, getting stuck and dealing with emotions as they arise.

Let’s do this together!

art journaling with intuition

This first page is all about intuition, following impulses, feelings, ideas and words as they show up, responding to what’s happening within you and on the page. Then we’ll bring it all together, into a beautiful, cohesive story - your story!

art journaling with intention

In this second page, I’ll show you how to start with an idea and work from there to select your color palette, composition and the elements of a story. We’re going to start with a super quick sketch and I’ll also share my favorite technique for translucent portraits!

Part 3

Fill Your Journal

This final part of the class is all about helping you fill every page of your journal from your heart and soul!

By sharing a whole variety of styles, themes and techniques, I want to encourage you to practice and find your own unique voice as an artist.

A Garden Dream

EMBRACE THE JOY OF NATURE

Art journaling is such a wonderful way to express our dreams and emotions and to record meaningful moments in our lives.

In this workshop, I'm sharing the making of my first art journal page I created after we moved into a lovely old home that had such a beautiful garden. I felt so happy and inspired by my new surroundings that I wanted to capture that moment in my art journal!

White Magic

AN ABSTRACT ART JOURNAL PAGE

An art journal is a perfect playground to explore and experiment. For instance, something I’ve always been fascinated by is… white!

How about exploring this magical color in a beautiful abstract page, full of texture and translucent effects? There are so many nuances to white. Combined with subtle neutrals and some darks for contrast, let’s find out how it evokes emotions and nurtures the soul with its unique, ethereal and soothing light.

Simple Things

Celebrate the everyday

Sometimes we might overlook the simple blessings of everyday life: a delicious meal, a comfy pillow, good health, a ray of sunshine... But what an amazing gift to take the time to appreciate all these blessings in our daily life, big and small.

So let’s express gratitude in our art journals! In this project, we’ll start by making a list of our favorite things. Then, we’ll choose three of them to celebrate in a joyful and whimsical art journal page. Bring on the happy vibes!

In total, The Artist & The Journal has over 11 hours of high-quality video lessons, bonus workshops, journal flip-throughs and 5 in-depth art journaling sessions.

I show and explain everything in detail, and I encourage you to make the process yours and work with what you’ve got. If you've ever taken a class with me, you know I like to keep it clear and super inspiring!

The class is in English with English closed captions available.

What students have said:

“Wow! What a fabulous class! I’ve taken a lot of classes, and this one was spectacular! Not only did Laly go over so many materials and usage... but she really makes you think about how it translates to your own art making. Not just “here’s a project, this is how to do it”. Laly talks you through her thoughts and shows you where she gets inspiration. I can’t wait to see what becomes in my studio after watching this class. So inspiring.”

— JANNE R.

“Laly does not mask her emotions for the sake of looking good. She shows up to her table to create and play by being vulnerable and real. With every paint stroke and piece of collage, she works through whatever she was feeling or what may have been blocking her at the time. In doing so, I find her sense of strength and courage so encouraging and empowering.”

— PATRICE E.

“I’m discovering new nuances to this art every day I come back to the videos and my journal. I trust myself so much more as a result of your lovely teaching. You really possess so many lovely gifts and I’m so glad you followed your impulse to share them in this way. I don’t have the words to express my gratitude for all I’ve learned in this course, Laly. It has been transformational. Must be all the butterflies!”

— BRIDGET B.S.

Magical pages from the students!

Your Guide
for this creative journey

Hi! I’m Laly and I'm so delighted you’re here! I’m a mixed media artist from France, and I’m here to help you grow your artist wings!

I’ve been art journaling for many years now and it’s become my favorite creative practice. Plus, it’s made me grow as an artist like nothing else!

My art journal is my secret and sacred place. It’s a magical portal where dreams can come true. It’s a playground where I can do whatever I want and make a mess sometimes! It’s also the place where I can just really be me, even on the days I’m a little sad or tired. I always keep my art journal open on my table, so I can just go and write or collage or just doodle a little bit, whatever is inspiring me in that moment.

It’s a wonderful artistic practice, but it’s also a well-being practice. It helps me deal with my emotions, tap into my dreams and imaginary worlds, and build my confidence as a woman and as an artist.

Your art journal will become your completely unique and magical storybook that reflects your heart and your soul. It’s the best feeling in the world to go back through your journal pages and realize that you truly are an artist and that your art matters, even if you create it just for yourself!

 Your Questions Answered

If you don’t find an answer below, don’t hesitate to reach out by email at admin@lalymille.com. My husband William & I will do our best to help!

I've never tried art journaling or mixed media before. I can't even draw a straight line! Can I really do this class?

Art journaling is super freeing and forgiving, and you don’t need any special talent or drawing skills to enjoy this beautiful practice! In this class, we do “mixed media” art journaling, which means that you can use any techniques and supplies you’re most comfortable with, and incorporate images through collage. I’ll guide you through all the basics and as we work with plenty of layers, you’ll see that any “mistakes” can always be fixed or covered up. Art journaling might be just what you need to fully embrace your creativity!

I don’t have a lot of art supplies. Will I need to spend hundreds of dollars on a journal and supplies?

No! You can definitely make beautiful art even if you’re not buying premium art supplies. You’ll need a few paints and I really recommend matte gel medium as a glue, but other than that I encourage you to use what you’ve got and go on a scavenger hunt for collage materials like magazines, old books and reclaimed papers. Your art journal is the perfect space to experiment with materials from around the house and all those supplies you’ve bought in the past and never used! And if you don’t have a journal, I teach you how to make your own in the class!

I’m an experienced artist. Will there be anything I can learn from this class?

Absolutely! If you’re an experienced artist but don’t have an art journal yet, this will take your creative practice to a whole other level! As a professional artist, I can honestly say that art journaling has been key to developing my personal style and deepening my creative voice. The Artist & The Journal is the perfect next step for you if you’re looking to renew your inspiration, loosen up and feel more free, while making art that’s more unique and meaningful than ever. Art journaling will help you unveil personal stories, themes and color palettes, while reconnecting to the pure joy of making art! Plus, this is all about taking time for YOU, to relax, rediscover and reconnect to the light of your creative soul.

To know if a class will be the right fit for you, trust your intuition. If, on the other hand, you’re looking only for technical instructions, or for an academic class where you submit work and get detailed feedback and critique, then this is not the right place.

If you’re not comfortable with words like soul, intuition, intention, mindfulness, affirmation, magic, or if seeing me draw an oracle card for inspiration makes you cringe… then my classes are probably not for you.

There’s no schedule to comply with, no “catching up” or “falling behind”, ever. They’re simply a space of freedom and creativity for you to explore and enjoy.

Most classes have lifetime access (as per our terms of service, "lifetime" means for the lifetime of the program). The videos are pre-recorded, so you can watch them at your own pace, whenever you want, and as many times as you wish. It’s up to you to find the rhythm that suits you best. Make time regularly to complete your course. It’s a gift you’re giving yourself!

  • For most of my classes, you get lifetime access to the classroom and videos. "Lifetime" technically means for the lifetime of the program. You can watch the videos within the classroom as often and as many times as you wish.

To protect the integrity of our content (and all the work that went into creating it) the videos are not downloadable. Therefore, before signing up, please make sure that your internet connection allows you to smoothly stream high-resolution videos online. Refunds will not be made after registration.
