A Touch of Pink

A Touch of Pink

and roses in my garden

Did you know that pink is proven to be a deeply soothing color, associated with love and kindness? So I thought I'd share some with you today!

Roses are one of my greatest sources of joy: I love to plant them, paint them, learn all about them… Whenever I come across one in the street, I always take the time to stop and smell it. What a lovely way to connect to the here and now.

And yes… I like to talk to them, and even call them by their names! Recently my son and I made some nice wooden name tags (out of Kapla blocks) so when you take a walk in the garden you can learn who they are. For instance…

Gentle Hermione…

… Jacques Cartier

… and Harlow Carr

Still waiting for Alan Titchmarsh’s first bloom!

There were already plenty of roses when we moved in last year, and finding out who they are is a bit of a detective job… which is so much fun! Here are some more pics from our garden:

They are starting to bloom all over the place and you can imagine how happy that makes me. The garden has such good soil that even the ones we only just planted last November are covered in buds, and others that didn’t grow much in our previous tiny, shadowy garden look like they are born again!

Of course, I have a soft spot for the pink ones. I just got a beautiful new set of Sennelier watercolors (gotta treat yourself sometimes, right?) and the roses have inspired me to start with some pretty pink experiments. I’m preparing a special lesson for a collaborative event next summer, sshh…

Speaking of roses and collaborations, I a thrilled to let you know that the Art Bundle for Good is back and my class Wild Roses is included in it! Registration opens tomorrow (May 9th) and this is a wonderful offering with over a hundred online workshops and art resources by an incredible team of artists, including Tamara Laporte, Flora Bowley, Effy Wild, Katrina Koltes, Carla Sonheim… and many more, all coming together to support a good cause. Here is a peek at my Wild Roses workshop, which is included in the bundle:

I hope you have enjoyed this stroll in my garden and that all this pink has lifted your spirits and made you smile!

with kindness, light and love,
